Revanth Flays KCR for Failing Flood Affected People

HYDERABAD: Neither Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao not municipal minister K.T. Rama Rao has any regard for people’s lives, which is exposed from their failure to do anything to help flood victims, said TPCC president A. Revanth Reddy.

Touring flood-affected areas in Uppal, which is part of his Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency, on Saturday, Revanth Reddy asked, “Are the cries for help not reaching the ears of the State government? It has not cared to take any pre-emptive measures to mitigate sufferings, despite being forewarned by the weather department.”

Instead of concentrating on the flood situation, Chandrashekar Rao was busy encouraging defections from Opposition parties. The government has completely failed to take up relief measures in the aftermath of the floods. The municipal minister should take the responsibility, the Congress leader said.

“Around 30 lives have been lost to floods, but the Chief Minister has not met anyone nor has he consoled families of the victims. Are the lives of the common people not important? Does a government exist in the State? If there is no progress on the elevated corridor works by Monday, we will raise the issue with Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari in Parliament.”

On the relief measures that have to be taken up, Reddy said, “The government should announce an immediate relief of '15,000 to the affected people. The condition of houses in low-lying areas should be examined. Families of those who lost their lives should be given '25 lakh as relief and agricultural lands with sand deposits must be given '20,000. The losses are estimated to be around '3,000 crore. The central government should disperse '1,000 crore towards flood relief measures immediately. Union minister G. Kishan Reddy ought to take the responsibility of bringing these funds.”

The PCC president, who toured Mamatanagar in Nagole, inspected the incomplete work on the nalas in the area and asked officials to complete them on a war-footing.

The Congress leader said that the situation has turned worse because 90 per cent of the lakes in the city have been taken over by BRS leaders.

“I appeal to the Congress cadre to participate in flood relief measures,” he said.

Earlier, there was a brief ruckus between the Pagidi Lakshma Reddy and Parameshwar Reddy groups even as their leader was touring the flood affected areas in Uppal.

Meanwhile, some BRS leaders from Kollapur, including former sarpanch Venugopal and MPTC Mahesh Reddy, joined the Congress party in the presence of Jupally Krishna Rao.
