VIJAYAWADA: Centre is all set to soon approve the revised cost estimate of Rs. 47,725 crore for the Polavaram irrigation project.
An assurance in this regard has been given to a delegation of YSR Congress MPs, which met union minister for Jal Shakthi Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi on Wednesday; seeking his intervention for approval of the project.
It is stated Shekhawat assured the delegation that he would recommend to the union cabinet that it approve the revised cost estimate of Polavaram project at 47,725 crore, as also suggested by Technical Advisory Committee of union finance ministry.
Earlier, YSR Congress MPs had submitted a representation to union Jal Shakthi ministry seeking approval of revised cost estimates of the project at Rs. 55,656 crore at 2017–18 price level, in line with the recommendation of Polavaram Project Authority, Central Water Commission and Technical Advisory Committee of finance ministry.
