Govt ready to offer medical aid to M Karunanidhi, says CM Palaniswami

SALEM: The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Mr. Edappadi K Palaniswami has said that state government was ready to provide any assistance for the ailing DMK president M Karunanidhi, if a request was made from their family.

Mr. Palaniswami, who was here to review development works at Asthampatti in Salem district, said as Mr. Karunanidhi has served as Chief Minister for five times and also a sitting MLA, the State government was ready to provide any assistance including medical facilities should a request come forth from them. “The Deputy Chief Minister, O. Pannerselvam and senior ministers visited his (Karunanidhi's house) and they were informed that he is recovering well,” added Palaniswami.

On the NEET issue, the Chief Minister said, “the Tamil Nadu government considers NEET unnecessary, though we are in a situation to having to implement it due to the Supreme Court's order. We continue to pressure the Central government to cancel NEET. It is not just our state's problem, it is a pan-Indian issue.”

Regarding the ongoing development works in the district, he said, “several over bridges have been constructed following schemes announced by former chief minister Jayalalithaa. Construction of few more bridges are under process and it would be completed soon. The first phase of study for establishing a bus port in Salem city has been completed. After further study, construction would begun.” The district collector, Ms. Rohini Bhajibhakare and various officials took part in the meeting.
