Tamil Nadu: Vaiko to stage protest on Monday
Vaiko alleged and said thousands of acres of agricultural land around the region would be ruined and environment would be severely affected.
Chennai: MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Friday announced a protest demonstration on July 31 against the declaration of 45 villages in Cuddalore and Nagapattinam districts as petro-chemical region.
He said the Centre is planning to extract and store methane, hydrocarbon and shell gas in the Cauvery delta in the name of petro-chemical region. He said the party’s protest would be held at Cuddalore district where 25 villages in Cuddalore, Chidambaram and Bhuvanagiri had been added to the region.
The state government had issued orders to acquire 57,345 acres of land for the proposed region, Vaiko alleged and said thousands of acres of agricultural land around the region would be ruined and environment would be severely affected.
