AP constructs only bridge across Palar: TN CM
Chennai: Andhra Pradesh is constructing only a bridge and not any check dam across the Palar river, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami told the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Wednesday, while giving an assurance that every step would be taken to ensure that free flow of water from the river is maintained to help farmers.
Replying to a question posed by DMK MLA 'Thangam' Thennarasu, Mr Palaniswami said a high-level team from PWD department is inspecting the site where Andhra Pradesh was said to be constructing a check dam across Kusa river, a tributary of Palar, and concluded that only a bridge was being built.
"Since only a bridge is being built, there will be no interruption in the flow of water to farmers in Tamil Nadu.
The state government will take every possible step to ensure farmers' rights are protected. I had already written to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and the Centre is reminding them that building any check dam across Palar would amount to violation since a case is pending in Supreme Court," Mr Palaniswami told the Assembly.
