Sitaram Yechury calls for all-party meet on GST
Thiruvananthapuram: CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Tuesday said he had conveyed his views regarding the position to be given to veteran leader V S Achuthandanan and appropriate decision would be taken by the Cabinet. He hailed Achuthanandan as one of the most respected leaders of the CPM in the country and his contribution in building the party was immense.
Close on the heels of Yechury’s statement, there were reports that the veteran leader was not averse to taking up Cabinet post offered by the Government. Sources said Achuthanandan is likely to be appointed as Chairman of Administrative Reforms Commission with Cabinet rank. The matter is likely to come up before the Cabinet on Wednesday.
The central leadership has been trying to persuade Achuthanandan to accept the post being offered to him. Meanwhile Yechury has urged the Centre to call an all-party meeting to evolve a consensus on GST. He said Modi Government was coming out with anti people policies by the day.
