Prakash Karat presser betrays CPM's Bengal mess
Thiruvananthapuram: While the CPM leadership has been maintaining that there is no ambiguity in the party's stand on Bengal, the press conference addressed by Prakash Karat after the two day state committee meeting on Monday to explain the central committee decision had raised eyebrows.
Since CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury had already explained the CC decision in detail after the meeting in Delhi and the same was covered widely by the Malayalam media, Karat’s press conference on the same issue here came as a surprise for many. The PB members attending state committee meetings usually do not hold press conferences to convey the decisions of the central committee and that too after the general secretary himself has given a detailed account. There could be exceptions in case if it is an important issue that needs central intervention.
CPM general secretary he had already stated that the CC decision that the electoral tactical line evolved in Bengal was not in consonance with the CC decisions and this should be rectified. The rectification will be done along with the Bengal leadership, the state secretariat. “We will go to their state committee meeting and discuss the matter,” he said.
“The party has decided that we should work for a broadest possible people's unity of resistance in West Bengal. The decision taken by the majority is the party understanding. So whether anybody is in a minority or abstaining, all party members have to implement the decision of the central committee,” Yechury added.
Karat also hinted at the fact that majority of CC members had voted against WB poll tactics. He went to the extent of saying that the figures given by Malayalam media were almost accurate in terms of division. This was to convey that Bengal electoral line was defeated with overwhelming majority.
