Kochi: The CPM mouthpiece Deshbahimani has censored the facebook post of politburo member MA Baby when the newspaper reproduced the same on its issue dated on June 26, 2016. Baby on his facebook page issued a post detailing the police atrocities during the emergenc in which he talked about existence of torture camps under the leadership of the then state Crime Branch police headed by the late Jayaram Padikkal.
“A terrible torture camp under the leadership of Jayaram Padikkal functioned in Sasthamangalam. The terrible and pitiable conditions in the camp as told by a friend TN Joy is still a burning memory”, Baby wrote in the post. When Deshabhimani reproduced the post on June 26, marking the 41st annversary of emergency, this portion was censored.
Mr. Joy, now known as Najmal Babu, a survivor of the torture camp asked whether Deshabhimani is under the impression that Mr. Baby committed a crime by mentioning the name of a person and a friend, who is not a party member. “The relief is that Mr. Baby has not withdrawn his post so far unlike many other so called comrades when the issue became a controversy in Facebook,” he said.
