District pleaders top priority: LDF

Appointment of Distirct pleaders is a long winding process and that is the reason the government decided to consider it first.

Kochi: The newly elected LDF government has decided to appoint district level government pleaders first before turning their attention to Government pleaders at the Kerala High Court. “We have asked the law department to consider the appointment of pleaders at lower courts. We are considering it in a time bound manner,” said law minister A.K. Balan.

Appointment of Distirct pleaders is a long winding process and that is the reason the government decided to consider it first. He added that the government is yet to finalise the appointment of Advocate General and Director General of Prosecution at Kerala High Court. Concurrence of High Court is needed to appoint Director General of Prosecution and Advocate General so it will take time for the same.

However, sources told this newspaper that notification appointing Advocate General would be issued this week. The government is considering several names such as veteran lawyer M.K. Damodaran former AG C.P. Sudhakara Prasad and senior advocate K. Gopala Kirhsna Kurup. Senior advocate Ranjith Thampan would be the next Additional AG.

Senior counsel C.P. Sudhakara Prasad, had served as Advocate General in 2006-2011 when V.S. Achuthanandan was in power. “We are looking for advocates with quality. They need to support the governemnt wholeheartedly,” Mr Balan said. The government pleaders in Kerala high Court will be undertaken after the district-level appointments.
