Leaders taking rest after polls

Oommen Chandy is resting at home with a sore throat, while Ramesh Chennithala has headed for the US on a 10-day vacation with his family.

Thiruvananthapuram: Now that the elections are over, majority of Congress leaders are on a sabbatical.

Oommen Chandy is resting at home with a sore throat, while Ramesh Chennithala has headed for the US on a 10-day vacation with his family.

The party's candidate in the state capital, Dr Shashi Tharoor, is busy campaigning in northern states.

Mullappally Ramacha-ndran is resting at his Vadakara home and is scheduled to be here on Monday.

On Sunday evening, Oommen Chandy's son Chandy Oommen went live on Facebook with Ramya Haridas, Cong-ress candidate in Alath-ur, who visited the Cha-ndy family here, singing a Christian devotional song.

He also showed his father on a “voice rest”. But the father-son duo ensured to offer their condolences to the family of a senior journalist D. Vijayakumar when his body was brought to the Press Club here.

The office of Mr Chennithala was busy as usual letting him abreast with developments here and churning out press releases.

Mr Ramachandran had been challenging chief minister Pinarayi Vijay-an to break his silence on rampant bogus votes in northern districts.

A general secretary said this is the time the KPCC should utilise the time for holding talks on party revamping.

“But there is no guarantee that after the poll outcome, the leadership would seriously pursue on party revamping. Once the UDF gets the maximum seats, then they would be busy campaigning for assembly by-elections,” he told DC.

By-elections would have to be held within six months, but Mr Ramachandran is keen to re-structuring the party.

If Kodikunnil Suresh wins Mavelikara, his working president role along with the vacant seat that had come with the death of another working president M. I. Shanavas would also have to be filled up.
