BJP plans night dharna over BBMP misrule'
Bengaluru: The BJP has decided to take on the Congress-JD(S) led BBMP administration head-on for increasing property tax and for its inability to find a solution to the garbage problem in the city.
At a recent meeting of city BJP office bearers, state president B.S. Yeddyurappa had directed them to hold an overnight dharna against the Congress-JD(S) combine in BBMP.
The steep increase in property tax based on guidance value, has severely affected people with the public mood largely against the Congress government, he said at the meeting.
As a first step, the BJP will raise these issues in the BBMP Council meeting on Friday. If the Palike administration refuses to revert to the old property tax rates, the party will resort to an overnight dharna from May 3 onwards.
Meanwhile, a blame game has begun in the saffron party with the BJP top brass expressing displeasure against the city leadership for not taking out protest rallies against the state government. The party is disappointed with the performance of the city BJP wing, especially its failure to seize power in BBMP despite bagging 100 of 198 seats in the BBMP elections.
While several leaders blame former deputy Chief Minister R. Ashok for his failure to win the BBMP for BJP, supporters of Mr Ashok feel Bengaluru Central MP P.C. Mohan, C.V. Ramanagar MLA Raghu and Mahadevapura MLA Aravind Limbavali are responsible for the fiasco.
