Kurnool: Family refuses to accept packages to keep off polls

Mr Reddy\'s decision has made his rivals uncomfortable as they were hoping that his committed vote bank would be shifted in their favour.

KURNOOL: Nandyal Lok Sabha constituency is poised to witness a three corner contest with nominees from Jana Sena, TD and YSR Congress failing to persuade S.P.Y Reddy to withdraw his nomination. TD top leadership had deputed Rajya Sabha MP T.G. Venkatesh to prevail on Reddy to change his mind but he was unrelenting.

S.P.Y. Reddy addressed a press meet on Thursday evening to explain why he wants to be in the fray. He said that his family was under "intense pressure" to withdraw and was offered several packages. "As a leader of considerable standing, I and my family members including my son-in-law Sajjala Sridhar Reddy and my daughter Sujala did not accept the offers saying if we run away from the fight, we will lose our credibility for life. Building credibility in public life was of the prime concern," he added.

Mr Reddy's decision has made his rivals uncomfortable as they were hoping that his committed vote bank would be shifted in their favour. Of those who banked on this possibility was TD which had fielded an IPS officer Mandra Siva Nanda Reddy. The TD candidate is not only new to politics but also to Nandyal city.

Along with Mr Reddy, his son-in-law is running for Nandyal Assembly election. His remaining in fray has given goose bumps to TD candidate Bhuma Bramhananda Reddy. It is learnt that Bramhananda Reddy had personally approached Sridhar Reddy to withdraw and cooperate with him but failed.
Sajjala Sujala, daughter of Reddy is contesting from Banagana Palle constituency.
