Govt will probe suspicious deaths during DMK rule: CM Edappadi K Palaniswami

Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Thursday announced that his government would probe all 'suspicious deaths that took place during the DMK rule.'

“Our government will dig up all those cases and take firm action,” he said while addressing an election rally in support of the AIADMK-led combine candidates. A day ago, the CM had referred to the allegation made by Sadiq Batcha's widow regarding his suspicious death. The CM sought to link the mysterious death of the 2-G case accused Sadiq Batcha at his Chennai residence on March 16, 2011, with DMK president M.K. Stalin.

Campaigning at Vandavasi in support of his party candidate for Arni Chengi Ve Ezhumalai, Palaniswami claimed that the DMK had not delivered on its earlier poll promises. For instance, the poor were promised two acre land in the DMK election manifesto by late M. Karunanidhi (DMK president). “Did he deliver?” Palaniswami asked. Also the DMK was in power for several years in Tamil Nadu and shared power with Congress at the Centre, yet they did nothing for the State.

The DMK president M.K. Stalin, he said, was going around addressing election rallies, repeatedly uttering falsehood in implicating the AIADMK leadership in the Kodanadu heist and murder case and in doing so, Stalin 'has become the leader of hired goons.' “If there is a Nobel prize for uttering lies, then Stalin will be winner,” said the CM. Palaniswami also accused Stalin of daydreaming of becoming CM. “If people give it, take it,” he said implying that Stalin will not be able to win the people's vote in Tamil Nadu. “I believe in god. If you have a good heart, you will also be blessed. But you are not the kind,” he added.

Accusing the DMK of trying to stop the welfare schemes for the poor, Mr. Palaniswami said, “what good can they do for the poor if they are sabotaging the schemes for the poor,” he said while campaigning at Tiruvannamalai, Sriperumbudur and Kancheepuram. While speaking to reporters at Kancheepuram he said his combine has “bright prospects” for winning at the hustings. To a question, he replied that it was the decision of the election commission in not holding bypoll to three other Assembly constituencies.
