M K Stalin cries foul over cooperative election
CHENNAI: Cutting across party lines, Opposition parties in Tamil Nadu cried foul over the state machinery in conducting cooperative societies election. DMK leader M.K. Stalin said that that poll presiding officers were not even receiving the nomination papers being presented by members of DMK party. He asked the government officials to do their duty and not get involved in politics played by the ruling party. The government may fall any time and you (officers) will be in trouble, the Opposition leader said.
Meanwhile the DMK organising secretary R. S. Bharathi submitted a petition to the Raj Bhavan complaining that the entire state is witnessing huge agitation, where illegalities in elections takes place. "Absolutely, there is no adherence of rule of law by the officials deputed by the state government to conduct the co operatives societies election, they are totally colluding with the ruling party candidates and the officials are adopting all illegal methods to benefit the candidates ruling party", said Bharathi in his petition.
Meanwhile tension erupted in Kanyakumari, where six MLAs belonging to the Congrss and the DMK entered into an argument with the poll presiding officer for helping the ruling party candidates. Congress MLA Prince and DMK MLA Suresh Rajan were seen abusing the government official as he was allegedly found supporting the AIADMK candidature.
