Telangana: Our fears proven true by CAG, says Congress

Shabbir Ali said indiscriminate borrowing will not help the state build assets as being claimed by the CM.

Hyderabad: Leaders of Opposition in TS Assembly and Council K. Jana Reddy and Mohd. Ali Shabbir and senior MLA T. Jeevan Reddy on Tuesday said that their apprehensions over the precarious financial health of the state were being proven true by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India reports.

Addressing a news conference at the CLP office, Mr Jana Reddy warned the state government over resorting to manipulating figures and said that borrowing more than the state’s revenue would leave TS bankrupt “like Vijay Mallya”.

“We have been telling the government for the last two years that Budget proposals are not realistic and do not reflect the factual position of state’s finances; the same thing has been highlighted by the CAG now,” Mr Jana Reddy said.

He said there has been a systematic attempt by the TRS government to conceal facts and cover up the lacunae with tall promises and glib talk. “Many departments did not get the money promised by the Chief Minister, some departments did not spend the money allotted, the net result is that the state is lagging behind both in development and welfare,” Mr Jana Reddy pointed out.

Mr Shabbir Ali said indiscriminate borrowing will not help the state build assets as being claimed by the CM. “TS is not getting revenues as projected by the government; they are taking huge loans and showing the state to be revenue surplus to get more loans,” he said.
from external agencies. This is not the advisable way to deal with state finances, a fact highlighted by the CAG,” Mr Shabbir Ali said.
