Telangana BJP chief Kishan may get to stay longer
Hyderabad: Even though Mr Amit Shah’s election as the BJP national president for a second term is over, there is uncertainty in both the state BJP units of Telangana and AP on the appointment of new presidents.
Party circles are unsure whether it will take place before or after the national party executive that will formally endorse the election of Mr Shah.
Party units were communicated on Sunday that the BJP national executive would be held on March 19 and 20 in Delhi during Parliament recess.
However, there is uncertainty over the election of new presidents for Telangana and AP units and unless national council members, one for each Parliament constituency, are named, the national executive cannot be held to ratify Mr Amit Shah’s election as national president.
Telangana BJP leaders say that unless state party chief G. Kishan Reddy is accommodated in the new national body, naming his successor as the Telangana party president cannot be done.
Claiming the proximity of Mr Kishan Reddy with both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mr Shah, the leaders say, “Everything will be decided only after the national executive meet.”
The proposed meeting of state leaders with the in-charge party secretary to hear opinions on the new president for Telangana and AP could not be held due to various reasons.
However, an aspirant for the AP BJP president’s post told DC: “We hope that new presidents for both states will be announced after Amit Shah visits Rajahmundry on March 6 and before the national executive meet on March 19.
Not only in TS and AP, elections for state president posts have not been held for most of the southern units. Only when that is completed can national council members, who will participate in the national executive meet, be elected.
“There will be a lot of criticism if the national executive is held without members from the south.” A clarification on the appointment of new state presidents will most probably emerge during Mr Shah’s visit to Rajahmundry on March 6.
