Supreme Court rejects Marri's plea on adding 7 mandals to Andhra Pradesh

Based on its EC's contention, the court rejected the petition.

Hyderabad: The Supreme Court on Monday rejected Congress leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy’s plea against the notification issued by Election Commission of India which included all seven mandals in Khammam district of Telangana under Polavaram Project limits into Andhra Pradesh.

The apex court was not inclined to hear the matter as the Telangana state Assembly elections were over and said that it came under the ambit of the Election Commission's powers.

The ECI counsel told the court that they have released the notification based on the Gazette issued by the Centre and submitted that the Union ministry had sent a letter to them to take proper action to declare the seven mandals as part of AP. Based on its EC's contention, the court rejected the petition.
