Mangaluru Vishwa Hindu Parishad unit chief backs retaliatory killing

Jagadish Shenava has raked up a new controversy by allegedly supporting the retaliatory murder of Ahmed Basheer in Surathkal.

Mangaluru: Vishwa Hindu Parishad district president Jagadish Shenava, also a lawyer by profession, has raked up a new controversy by allegedly supporting the retaliatory murder of Ahmed Basheer in Surathkal.

BJP activist Deepak Rao was murdered at Katipalla on January 3 afternoon.

On the same night, Ahmed Basheer, the owner of a fast food joint was murdered by communal elements as an alleged retaliation for Deepak's murder. The murder of Deepak and Basheer were condemned by all sections of the society as both were innocent and not involved in any communal activity.

But 25 days after the murder, VHP district president Jagadish Shenava raked up a new controversy at a book release programme held at Mangaluru on Sunday. “Basheer was killed as a retaliation for the murder of Deepak. The media reported that an innocent Muslim was murdered. But Deepak Rao too was innocent and was not involved in any case,” he asserted.

“If an innocent Sharath Madivala could be killed as a retaliation for the murder of Ashraf (in June 2017) the question is can’t Basheer be killed as a retaliation for the murder of an innocent Deepak?” he said. He felt that the Hindu community's weakness was its quality of forgiveness for wrong doers.
