Kurnool may see change in YSRC candidates

Kurnool: The YSRC high command has summoned MLAs from two assembly segments in Kurnool to Tadepalli, leading to widespread speculation about potential changes in candidacies from constituencies in Kurnool district for the upcoming assembly elections.

Alur MLA and labour minister Gummanuru Jayaram has already met Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, while Yemmiganur legislator K Chennakesava Reddy met the party's high command on Wednesday.

On the day, former MP Butta Renuka and Veerashaiva Lingayat Corporation chairman Y. Rudra Gowd met party’s regional coordinator Ramasubba Reddy for discussions.

Summons to leaders from Yemmiganur has led to speculations. Sources say Jayaram has reportedly been asked to contest from the Kurnool Lok Sabha seat. He is reluctant but would contest for the MP seat if insisted by the party's high command.

In 2014, Yemmiganur MLA Chennakesava Reddy got the ticket for his son K. Jaganmohan Reddy, who lost. In 2019, Chennakesava Reddy himself became the candidate and won. Currently, there is speculation about the candidate from Yemmiganur, despite Chennakesava Reddy’s insistence on his son’s nomination from the constituency, a proposal reportedly rejected by the Chief Minister.

Former MP Renuka and Lingayat corporation chairman Rudra Gowd are both interested in contesting for Yemmiganur assembly seat. Rudra Gowd boasts of a significant vote bank within his community. He joined YSRCP before 2019 elections but did not get the party ticket. He has reportedly requested the party high command for a nomination this time around.
