Former MLC Akula Lalitha Rejoins Congress

Nizamabad: Overcoming the hurdles, former MLC Akula Lalitha joined the Congress on Friday at a function in New Delhi. AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge inducted her into the party-fold.

TPCC president A. Revanth Reddy, CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, MPs N. Uttamkumar Reddy, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and others were present.

Hoping to get the Nizamabad urban MLA ticket, Akula Lalitha resigned to the post of chairperson of the Telangana State Women Finance Corporation and the ruling BRS primary membership. Lalitha began her political career in the Congress and served as MLC, MLA, Mahila Congress state president and district Congress committee president.

During the first phase of Vijayabheri bus yatra of Rahul Gandhi in Peddapally district, Akula Lalitha was all set to join the Congress, but local leaders in Nizamabad district raised objection. Senior leaders reminded the AICC that Akula Lalitha had left the Congress during the crucial 2018 Assembly elections and urged the leadership to not take her back into the party.

Finally, Akula Lalitha along with her husband Nyavanandi Raghavender joined the Congress. They used their old contacts with the national leadership. Congress central leadership believes that the joining of Akula Lalitha will benefit the party in Nizamabad urban, Nizamabad rural and Armoor Assembly constituencies.

The followers of Akula Lalitha plans to give a rousing welcome to her in Hyderabad on Saturday as also at her home town in Nizamabad.

Akula Lalitha belongs to the numerically strong Munnur Kapu community and she will flaunt her influence with the BC communities, especially the Munnuru Kapus.

Yellareddy’s former MLA Enugu Ravinder Reddy also joined the Congress in New Delhi in presence of AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge. BRS founding member Ravinder Reddy had resigned from the BRS along with Etala Rajendar and joined the BJP. In the changed political situations, Ravinder along with former MP Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy resigned from the BJP and joined the Congress.
