Visakhapatnam: Stating that the investigation of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the attack on the YSRC supremo and opposition leader, Y.S. Jagan Monhan Reddy, was an eyewash, YSRC leaders said that people had lost faith in SITs on many occasions as they were constituted by the state government and their report would also favour it. The YSRC leaders demanded that the government hand over the case to the central investigation agencies for an impartial inquiry.
It may be recalled that Jagan was injured in a knife attack when J. Srinivasa Rao, a waiter in a restaurant, stabbed him at the VIP lounge in Vizag Airport on Thursday afternoon. The TD government formed an SIT led by ACP (Madhurawada) B. Nageswara Rao, to investigate the case and ascertain the reasons behind the attack.
District president of the YSRC, Gudivada Amarnath, said that AP police were under the thumb of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and other TD leaders. Jagan refused to record his statement with the AP police, as, like all others, he also had lost confidence in the police in AP who were influenced by the TD government, he added.
Even before the CISF personnel handed over the accused Srinivasa Rao to the AP police, the DGP of AP, Thakur, stated that the accused was a big fan of Jagan and had resorted to the crime because craze and to gain publicity. The DGP’s statement was an indication that the police was trying to dilute the case and that they were unable to unearth the political conspiracy in the case, pointed out Amarnath.
The report given by the SIT that was constituted by the TD government to enquire into the land scam and tampering of government land records in Vizag was also an eyewash and nothing much had come out of it. Similarly, the TD government formed the SIT to probe into the attack on Jagan and cover up their alleged role. “We have been demanding a CBI inquiry into the case,” Amarnath added....
