Bhatti decries arrests of Cong MLAs
HYDERABAD: Accusing the TRS government of denying the rights of Opposition party legislators in the state, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said the police arrested party MLAs who went to the Assembly on horse cart during the Bharat Bandh to expose the misery of people due to steep hike in fuel prices and prevented them from attending the Assembly session.
Speaking to reporters here at Gandhi Bhavan on Monday, Vikramarka, along with MLC T. Jeevan Reddy, MLAs D. Sridhar Babu, T. Jayaprakash Reddy and Seethakka, demanded that the Assembly Speaker and chairman of Legislative Council should give explanation regarding this. “It is the responsibility of the Speaker and chairman to protect the rights of MLAs and MLCs, but the duo did not respond on the arrest of Congress legislators,” he said.
Vikramarka said MLAs could decide which mode of transport they used to attend the Assembly session. But the police arrested the MLAs and prevented them from attending the session, he alleged. “It is a breach of rights of members and we will move privilege motion in this regard,” he said.
The Congress was strongly condemning the undemocratic attitude of the TRS government, he said. TRS MLA T. Harish Rao stood on the benches in Assembly during the united Andhra Pradesh government, but was never prevented by the Congress government, he reminded. “We democratically and peacefully staged protests, but police arrested us,” he said.
