Move around in sari, see women safety, CM Pinarayi Vijayan told
Thiruvananthapuram: Veteran politician K. R. Gowri has expressed concern over women safety and suggested Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan walk on streets wearing a sari to get the firsthand feel.
It was during a function to honour her as well as E. Chandrasekharan Nair, the only living members of the first Kerala Assembly, as part of its diamond jubilee celebrations, that she expressed her concerns.
"Even as I am nearing 100, I could stand in front of you and speak as I worked among the people. During those days I had even walked along roads at night safely. But the chief minister may walk around in the streets wearing a sari to know the safety concerns of women these days," she said.
Mr Vijayan earlier draped a shawl on her and presented a memento. Chandrasekharan Nair could not turn up due to ill health.
Speaker P. Sreeramakri- shnan urged the government to give due consideration to ex-MLAs. Ms Gowri and many other ex-MLAs sat on their old seats in the Assembly and shared memories with legislators.
Many ex-MLAs MLAs were also eagerly clicking selfies on their mobile phones in the old Assembly hall.
