Chennai: With the factional feud of the leaderless state Congress reaching the police station in the form a complaint against former TNCC leader E.V.K.S. Elangovan, focus has shifted to checking the unceasing disputes among groups, before appointing a leader to the state unit.
The police complaint against Elangovan had sparked another round of fights in the party with the supporters of the former TNCC leader demanding the removal of state youth wing leader Vijay Ilanchezhian who had filed a police complaint against Elangovan, instead of taking the issue to the party high command.
In a joint statement, 41 district presidents, owing allegiance to Elangovan said the complaint had been filed by the youth wing functionary 32 hours after Elangovan pulled him up for threatening to break open party spokesperson A. Gopanna’s room in party’s state headquarters for youth wing’s use, the district leaders said and added that it had been done after a few persons incited Vijay Ilanchezhian, who had caused disrepute to the party.
They said Vijay Ilanchezhian along with his supporters demanded key to party spokesperson Gopanna’s room in state party headquarters Sathyamurthy Bhavan and threatened the office manager.
When the manager said he did not have the key with him, the youth wing leader threatened to break the lock and take the room for youth wing’s use. When shocked manager informed Elangovan, the latter rushed to Sathyamurthy Bhavan and pulled up Vijay Ilanchezian and warned of serious action.
He advised the youth wing leader to get their rooms after the nomination of the new TNCC president. They said the party is being pushed to a confused state when those who had worked for the party are looking for success in the local body elections.
Vijay Ilanchezhian’s supporters said the party-in-charge Chinna Reddy had given permission to use any room in the party headquarters. When the youth wing functionaries wanted the key for a room, Elangovan who entered the office used harsh words and threatened to murder them, they alleged.
