Ramesh Chennithala to take BJP scam to Supreme Court
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala will move the Supreme Court against the medical college scam involving the BJP national leaders. He has approached the AICC seeking its support for his move as he has alleged that it is a Rs 1,000-crore scandal. He had said earlier that the centre had granted recognition to 70 medical colleges with each college giving a bribe of Rs 13.5 crore to the middlemen in the BJP. “The term of Lodha commission ended on May 15. The order for sanction of the colleges was issued on May 31. So a Supreme Court judge should probe the scam to bring out the truth,” said Mr Chennithala. He will be assisted by Mr T. Asif Ali, former director-general of prosecution.
However, a section of Congress leaders has opposed his move saying he should have organised a protest march to the BJP office first. “Chennithala takes a soft stand towards the BJP. His present move is to hog the headlines. Instead, he has to stop the BJP strides in the state,” said a KPCC general secretary. Those close to Mr Chennithala are not worried about the huge amount needed to pursue the case in the Supreme Court. Former KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran had to seek financial support from business people for the cases he had slapped against the LDF government, sources said.
