HD Kumaraswamy dares BJP to hold Grama Vastavya

‘Organising village stay not as easy as criticising it from chambers of opposition party’

Ujlamb (Basavakalyan taluk): Undeterred by the BJP's criticism of his Grama Vastavya or village stay programme, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Thursday challenged it hold a similar programme as it took Herculean effort to hold.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Janata Darshan programme in Ujlamb, a Marathi dominated village close to the Maharashtra border, he said holding the programme was not as easy as criticising it from the official chambers of the opposition party in the state.

“I spend more than eight hours interacting with the people during the Janata Darshan alone, where I receive applications from each individual, hear his or her grievances with patience and direct the officials to attend to them. It's easy to criticise, but hard to follow,” he contended.

Deploring that the BJP had done everything possible to destabilise his government over the last 13 months, he said it had, however, not succeeded. Denying that his government was focusing only on a few districts as alleged, the Chief Minister said his aim was to develop Karnataka as a model state by improving the socio-economic conditions of the people through various welfare schemes. “We have equally allocated funds for schemes and projects launched in all the districts across the state," he maintained.

Recalling the contribution of his party supremo H.D. Deve Gowda to the state's irrigation sector, Mr Kumaraswamy promised to continue focusing on it in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region and make the neccessary fund allocations for it.

He revealed that regional commissioner Subodh Yadav had been told to submit a report within a week on the condition of school buildings and teacher vacancies in all villages of the six districts of Hyderabad Karnataka. Addressing farmers, he suggested they adopt technologies that supported sustainable farming and make use of government schemes.
