EC begins preparations for Assembly elections

HYDERABAD: Social media teams will be constituted in all 33 districts to counter false information with regard to the Assembly elections due later this year. Besides, special focus will be on 7.6 lakh households with each having over six voters.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has begun preparations for the elections. As a first step, it will appoint returning officers for all 119 constituencies. The ECI has asked district election officers and collectors to send names by April 30.

The first-level checking of EVMs and voter-verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) by nodal officers will be completed by June, in the presence of representatives of political parties.

Master trainers for educating employees on their election duties will be appointed by the month-end. All aspects of errors in similar entries of photo-ID cards will be re-verified by the officials.

As those who complete 18 years of age by April 1 will be enrolled as voters, the office will come up with a supplementary voters list.
