Tamil Nadu will not appeal to SC on gutka scam ruling, says D Jayakumar

The DMK had sought for a judicial probe headed by a retired high court judge.

Chennai: Senior AIADMK minister D. Jayakumar said that the state government would not appeal to the Supreme Court against the Madras high court order entrusting the gutka scam probe to the CBI.

Speaking to reporters here on Friday he said the Madras high court, in its order on the gutka scam, had neither condemned state government nor the police.
According to Jayakumar, the DMK has not achieved any victory in getting the high court verdict ordering a CBI probe in the scam. The DMK had sought for a judicial probe headed by a retired high court judge.

The CBI will take the assistance of State police in the investigation. The authorities will render cooperation to the CBI in the probe, he assured. The minister has also ruled out the resignation of his colleague Dr C. Vijaya Baskar, minister for health and family welfare and pointed out that the high court made it clear that in its verdict that it did not "necessarily reflect any finding, even prima facie, of interference of any Constitutional authority or any high official of the state government in such investigation".
