Telangana to get Rs 1 lakh-crore from Centre

Hyderabad: The state will get Rs 1.06 lakh crore from the Centre towards its share in Central taxes and grants as per the recommendations of the 14th Finance Commission for the period from 2015 to 2020. Of this, the Centre has already released Rs 41,724 crore in the last two years (2014-15 and 2015-16).

This was informed by Union minister of state for finance, Jayant Sinha, in reply to the question asked by Congress MP Palvai Govardhan Reddy in the Rajya Sabha, regarding the financial assistance extended to TS by the Centre.

Mr Sinha said the Centre had released Rs 9,795.40 crore towards the state’s share in Central taxes, Rs 2,090.47 crore towards grants to non-plan schemes and Rs 5,027.63 crore towards grants to plan schemes, totalling Rs 16,913.50 crore in 2014-15.

In 2015-16, he said, the Centre had released Rs 12,350.72 crore towards TS share in Central taxes, Rs 5,903 crore towards grants to non-plan schemes and Rs 6,557.50 crore to plan schemes, totalling to Rs 24,811.22 crore.

In all, the TS government received Rs 22,146.12 crore towards its share in Central taxes, Rs 7,993.47 crore towards grants to non-plan schemes and Rs 11,585.13 crore for plan schemes, totalling Rs 41,724.72 crore in the last two years, of the Rs 1,06,606 crore recommended by the 14th Finance Commission from 2015 to 2020.

This apart, Mr Sinha said the Centre had released Rs 467.40 crore to the State Disaster Response Fund under National Disaster Response Fund to tackle drought during the last two years.

Besides, the Centre had approved a Rs 814.87 crore package to TS towards financial assistance under NDRF on account of natural calamities like cyclones, hailstorms and drought during the last two years.
