Country will be safe in Modi’s hands, says TN CM Edappadi K Palaniswami

Chief Minister has urged the electorate to give a massive mandate to Modi for national security and progress.

CHENNAI: Averring that the country will be safe from terror attacks only in the hands of ''able and capable'' leader like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister has urged the electorate to give a massive mandate to Modi for national security and progress.

Campaigning for the AIADMK-led alliance candidates at Porur, Sholinganallur, Mamallapuram, Thirukazhukundram, Tambaram and Guindy, on Wednesday, he said the Lok Sabha election is very crucial as it not only ensures a "competent" government at the Centre that could effectively tackle the menace of terrorism besides fostering growth in the country but also enables Tamil Nadu to voice its concerns and find amicable solutions to various issues. "The Parliament helps to find solutions democratically but DMK which shared power with the Congress took no effort on protect the rights of Tamil Nadu," Mr. Palaniswami said.

Justifying his party's alliance with the BJP, Palaniswami who is AIADMK's Joint Coordinator, said his party firmed up alliance with the national party to guarantee more development to the State and to resolve TN centric issues at the national level. "We will support the Centre on issues that are good for the people of the country and will oppose those that go against the interest of the people of Tamil Nadu. The alliance is also for a stable government at the Centre," the CM added.

Stating that the DMK was making vain attempts to project its combine as a strong force, he said the results of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections would show who had trounced the DMK to an abysmal low. "On our own, under the leadership of Amma (late CM J. Jayalalithaa) we won 37 seats, while the BJP and PMK one seat each out of total 39 Lok Sabha constituencies in the State. Now do you see the DMK's position?" he asked and added the AIADMK combine will make history by winning all the 40 seats (including the lone Puducherry constituency) this time.
