BJP banks on development plank alone

A host of BJP leaders including national secretary H. Raja are campaigning in the constituency garnering votes for Gangai Amaran.

Chennai: Raising its pitch in the poll campaign in the high profile RK Nagar Assembly constituency, the BJP claimed that it alone can ensure good governance and development if its candidate was voted to power.

Taking on its political adversaries, the saffron party alleged that the AIADMK factions and also the opposition DMK were desperate for power and it was the BJP alone that is genuine as its intent is to strive for the well-being of the people.

“Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has demonstrated who good governance and development can revolutionise the society. Our party can transform the constituency by bringing in numerous developmental projects,” BJP state president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan said.

Campaigning for party candidate Gangai Amaran at Tondiarpet, she expressed apprehensions of large-scale distribution of cash for votes in the constituency by the AIADMK and DMK.

“The Dravidian parties are under the impression that they could win the election by bribing voters. Attempts have been made to distribute money in a temple and about Rs 7 lakh cash was seized, as per information reaching us,” she claimed.

Calling upon the Election Commission to prevent the distribution of money and other irregularities, the BJP said it would thwart the attempts to distribute money to voters.
