Congress questions BRS govt\'s commitment to education

HYDERABAD: Congress leaders said on Monday that Chief Minster K. Chandrashekar Rao had betrayed the people with regard to the education sector, as not only had the standards fallen but Budget had also been cut. They pointed out that the BRS had come to power with a promise of KG to PG free education,

Former minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah challenged government leaders to an open debate over education, and felt that the ruling party had abandoned its promise of “neellu, nidhulu, niyamakalu.”

He said the BRS government could not stake claim for the development of the IT industry as it was the Congress government that had facilitated the infrastructure by overcoming various hurdles. "KCR has come to power with promises like KG to PG free education, but what he has achieved. Let them come for a debate on this subject, I am ready," told Ponnala to Deccan Chronicle.
Lakshmaiah said the Congress government should be given due credit as it had provided everything for the industry in Hyderabad. "The IT sector’s foundation and infrastructure was provided by us. Besides coming up with the ORR, airport accessibility provided the much-needed support for the sustenance of the industry,” he said.

He alleged: “Unfortunately some companies including hardcore Telugu companies are leaving Hyderabad."

Advocate and party leader Sama Rammohan Reddy, while referring to the recent Budget, felt that the State government's lack of focus on education clearly reflected in the allocation to the sector.

The BRS government had earmarked one of the lowest allocations of any state to education, he said.

"Telangana stands amongst the worst states when it comes to standard of education as per the Niti Aayog. When it comes to accessibility of education to the poor, what more could be said when 5,000 schools are closed,”he said.

Rammohan Reddy said, “If you talk about the quality of food provided during midday, about 2,000 students were admitted to hospitals after consuming food in 2022 alone. This is the pathetic condition of educational institutions. Which parent will be ready to admit in schools, if there are no proper toilets?”
