BJP gains strength in 3 Lok Sabha segments

In the elections last conducted for the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation, BJP won a mere two seats.

HYDERABAD: The BJP has given a tough fight to TRS and Congress parties in the just-concluded urban local body elections, particularly in the Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Adilabad Lok Sabha constituencies that it had captured during the parliamentary elections.

The BJP has increased its number of seats in municipalities and corporations falling under these three LS seats, from where BJP candidates were elected MPs.

In the elections last conducted for the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation, BJP won a mere two seats. However, this time, its candidates went on
to win from 13 divisions in the corporation. Similarly, it stood second in Vemulawada and Huzurabad municipalities, pushing the Congress behind.

In the Nizamabad corporation, BJP emerged as the single largest party, capturing 28 out of the 60 divisions of the city. The party also took the second place in Korutla, Metpally and Armoor municipalities.

In the Adilabad parliament segment, the party won 11 of the total 49 wards in Adilabad municipality and stood second in Bhainsa, bagging nine of the total 26 wards.

During the last municipal polls in these three districts, Congress party, which was in the second place, has failed to open its account this time in some corporations and municipalities. The party had to settle for the third place in a few urban local bodies.

Karimnagar MP B. Sanjay Kumar, speaking to Deccan Chronicle, alleged that the ruling party spent hundreds of crores in the municipal elections but won the wards and divisions only with thin margins. He maintained that BJP is the only alternative to the ruling TRS in Telangana. He hoped that the BJP would stand in the first place in the next general elections in the state.
