No respite in attack on seer

They are not giving up on the attacks, insisting they would not cease firing until he apologises.

Chennai: His detractors do not seem satisfied with the mutt's reasoning that the seer was seated only because he was meditating when the Tamil Thaayi Vaazthu was being played at the recent book release function. They are not giving up on the attacks, insisting they would not cease firing until he apologises.

Firebrand politico TTV Dhinakaran is the latest to fire a salvo at the Junior Sankaracharya of the Kanchi Mutt, Vijayendra Saraswati for the 'insult' to Mother Tamil, which in effect was an insult to 'all the Tamils in the world'. According to him, the 'dhyanam' claim creates suspicion that the mutt would not mend ways and prevent such insults to Tamil people. Why couldn't the seer just apologise and be done, TTV demanded to know.

And he added yet another name to his list of charge-sheet recipients, the Srivilliputhur Jeer Sadagopa Ramanujam. The jeer's proclamation that the 'saamiyaars' too could hurl stones and soda bottles if someone dared to insult Hindu deities and institutions was very shocking and condemnable, TTV said in a statement here.

“The basic difference between ordinary people and sadhus like the jeer is that they shun violence and propagate peace, exude kindness. That being the case, how could the jeer say they too are capable of hurling stones and soda bottles?” TTV asked in his statement.

On his part, the Srivilliputhur Jeer, while addressing a meeting organised by some Hindu outfits to protest against poet Vairamuthu for his Andal comment, has now reiterated the February 3 deadline set for the lyricist to seek Andal's pardon at her Srivilliputhur shrine. If Vairamuthu remained obstinate, he would launch his protest fast once again, said the jeer at this meeting held at Tiruchengode.
