AIADMK district secretaries meeting on February 2

Intra-party polls should be conducted once in every five years.

Chennai: Deputy chief minister O. Panneerselvam and chief minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the coordinator and joint coordinator of the AIADMK, respectively, on Saturday who have called for membership drive of the party, said the district secretaries meeting of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam will be held on February 2 at the party headquarters at Royapettah here.

In a joint statement here, they said as per the party rules, intra-party polls should be conducted once in every five years.“Before the organisational election is held, the membership drive should be taken up and completed,” they said and added that efforts to include new members and also to renew the membership of the existing cadres are all set to commence. “The application forms will be issued from January 29 at the party headquarters. They will be issued on all days,” they said.

Bus fare hike is inevitable: Govt Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam has said that the State government has already explained why the bus ticket rates were increased and reiterated that the revision of fares was inevitable.

"Only after seven years, the bus fares have been hiked, that too after the government was left with no other option," he said and added that despite this, the ticket rates in Tamil Nadu are less compared to the rates in other States.
State Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar said, "the bus fares were hiked with a heavy heart to meet the rising fuel costs and the salaries of the staff members."
