Adilabad: Polling held for deciding on the recognised trade union of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) on Wednesday went off peacefully in all the coal belt areas in 11 divisions of the SCCL and six districts of Telangana on Wednesday.

When polling ended at 5 p.m. an overwhelming 94.15 per cent votes had been polled. According to officials, 37,447 of the total 39,773 voters exercised their franchise.

Counting of votes started at 7 p.m. Results will be out soon where the number of votes is less. The Srirampur area has the highest number of voters among the SCCL divisions. Results are expected to be announced around 11 p.m.

AITUC leaders protested at SRP 3 Coalmine in Mancherial alleging that election staff is favouring the INTUC, which is affiliated with the ruling Congress party.

Authorities conducted the polling amidst tight security. Officials of the central labour department kept an eye on the polling as observers for the elections.
There are reports that many BRS-affiliated Telangana Boggugani Karmika Sangham (TBGKS) sympathisers have voted for the AITUC.

TBGKS has been the recognised SCCL union twice. A total of 13 trade unions are vying to be the recognised union of the Singareni collieries. The main contenders in these elections are CPI-affiliated AITUC and INTUC of the Congress.
