Jagan to Inaugurate, Set Stone for 28 Power Substations

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy would inaugurate or set stone for a total of 28 APTransco substations at an estimated cost of Rs 3,100 crore across the state on Tuesday.

Energy special chief secretary and CMD of APTransco, K. Vijayanand, held a meeting with senior officials from APTransco, APGenco and Discoms here on Monday.

He advised them to make all necessary arrangements for the mega event, which would however be graced by the CM on virtual mode from his camp office.

This is the first time that the inauguration or foundation laying is done for so many power projects in one go.

Vijayanand said that as part of strengthening of the power network to supply quality power round-the-clock, APTrasco was setting up power substations at several locations in Kurnool, Nandyal, Kadapa, East Godavari, Kakinada, Anakapalli, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Palnadu, Nellore and Annayamma districts.

He said the Union ministry of new and renewable energy had approved the development of a 1,000 mw solar park at Mylavaram mandal in Kadapa district. Out of this, 250 mw was commissioned in February 2020. The remaining 750 mw would be developed by the solar energy corporation at an estimated cost of '3,000 crore. This would provide employment opportunities to 1,500 persons during the construction period and 350 persons during the operation and maintenance period for 25 years.

The plan would generate solar power of 1,500 million units per annum and would reduce 12 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions per annum, the special CS said.

He also said the 1,500 mw solar park, which got approval from MNRE at NP Kunta and Galiveedu villages in Sri Satya Sai and Annamayya districts, was completed to the level of 1,400 mw by several solar power developers. The remaining 100 mw capacity unit would be developed by HPCL. The firm would establish solar power projects for its captive use.

The project, he said, would cost Rs 400 crore with employment opportunity for 200 persons during the construction period and 50 persons during operation and maintenance for 25 years. The plant is expected to generate solar power of 200 million units per annum with expected reduction of carbon emissions by 1.6 lakh tonnes per annum.
