Bonus Rules Revised: Increased Eligibility and Enhanced Benefits for Chennai Public Sector Employees

Chennai: Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced payment of bonus and ex-gratia up to 20 percent to Group C and D employees of State public sector organisations to enable them celebrate the coming festivals with gaiety, benefitting 2,83,787 employees and costing Rs 402.97 crore for the exchequer.

The move that will see employees of profit-making PSUs, TANGEDCO and Civil Supplies Corporation get 8.33 per cent bonus and 11.67 per cent ex-gratia (total 20 per cent), while those in loss making PSUs will a total of 10 per cent (8.33 % bonus and 1.67 % ex-gratia) benefit, an official press release said.

Employees of Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board will also get 10 per cent and those of the State water supply and sewerage board will get only 8.33 % bonus. Temporary workers of the civil supplies corporation will get Rs 3000 ex-gratia.

With the revision of bonus rules, the salary ceiling for eligibility for bonus has been raised Rs 21,000 and the salary amount taken into consideration for bonus has also been increased to Rs 7000 a month, the release said, adding that total bonus amount for the beneficiaries will range between Rs 8,400 to Rs 16,800.
