THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Mr Benny Behanan is the ‘A’ group nominee for the KPCC president’s post. Former chief minister Oommen Chandy informed AICC's returning officer Sudarshan Nachiappan about the selection. A final decision will be taken by AICC president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi after considering the views of CWC member A. K. Antony. Mr Nachiappan will brief the AICC about the ‘A’ group plan. Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala is also in favour of Mr Behanan, although he is a Chandy loyalist.
An AICC leader said, “Behanan is a group leader. But the AICC wants a non-controversial person at the helm.” The AICC leadership will seek the opinion of Mr Antony before choosing the PCC chief. A section of Congress leaders feels that Mr Chandy, while projecting Mr Behanan, actually wants Mr Hassan to continue in his post.
