Congress Cadre Upbeat about Party Prospects in Ensuing Elections

The CM is splurging our money in Maharashtra

Hyderabad: With Congress MPs pitching in to contest as MLAs, and party leaders exuding confidence that they will romp home, how do the ordinary party workers feel? Speaking to a cross-section of party activists revealed that they were gung ho about their changes in the elections.

“I applied for the promised three acres land for Dalits. It’s been 10 years and I continue to be a daily-wage labourer. I have two sons,” says K. Lakshman of Nigva of Kuber mandal in Nirmal district.

Fellow villager D. Poshetti, a farmer with six acres, lamented that Rs 52,000 interest has accrued on his Rs 1.2 crop loan because of the delay in the waiver.

“Only those with loans of up to Rs 70,000 were given waiver. YSR had waived Rs 2 lakh loans in one go. Though power for agriculture is free, it is available for 12 hours against the assurance of 24 hours,” he said.

“The CM is splurging our money in Maharashtra. He had failed to make a mark there,” said B. Shankar from the same village.

K. Devendar, who has done his MSc in Microbiology and is unemployed, said, “Rythu Bandhu is benefitting those having large land holdings. Lack of jobs has forced me to take up driving..”

A. Sivakumar, a graduate from Jamandlapally in Mahbubabad mandal, said “Unemployed youth are forced to take up gig jobs. PhD holders are applying for attender jobs. While the double bed room houses are not seen, Indiramma houses and assigned lands given to the poor are there for all to see. Congress delivered the state and gifted schemes like Aarogyasri.”

“Why would we join the Congress if the BRS had delivered on its promise of jobs,” said E. Sreekanth from Nagireddypalli, Kohir mandal in Sangareddy district.

K. Bharat Kumar, a graduate from the same village, said education and health should be provided free of cost.

M. Chandresan from Zaheerabad said that his daughters and son-in-law could not get teacher jobs as the government did not fill them. The BRS failed to lift water from the Singur project and did not open Nizam Sugars, he added.

E. Narasayya from Cherlapalli (R) in Gangaram mandal, Karimnagar district, was peeved by the absence of proper roads. “Even after nine years we have to wade through waist deep water to go to our village during monsoon. We don’t get RTC buses because of the road condition. We spent money to lay a temporary road,” he said and added they are yet to get the promised compensation due to hailstorms.
