BCs are 50% of the population but only 15% in legislature: BJP MP

Visakhapatnam: BJP Rajya Sabha MP G.V.L. Narasimha Rao said “It is unfortunate that BCs are over 50 per cent of the population but are limited to only 15 per cent of the legislature.”

Rao was the chief guest at a meeting of the All-India Weavers Federation organised here on Sunday. A good number of handloom community members from surrounding states also attended the event.

The MP criticised the regional parties for not allocating enough seats to BCs for the Assembly and Parliament. He added: “All the backward classes need to be united and fight their problems together. All the social classes should get political empowerment in proportion but unfortunately, that is not the case in AP.”

He also stated that in Andhra Pradesh, there are 140 general category Assembly seats without reservation, but more than half of them belong to only two castes and that makes clear that injustice is being done to BCs and other castes.
