Situation tense at Ramagiri after YSRC attack on TD over defection

Sunitha had a heated argument with police and said she would resist YSRC goons if they tried to disturb peace

ANANTAPUR: A tense situation prevailed in the Ramagiri and CK Palli mandals of Rapthadu assembly segment in Satya Sai district over alleged attack and abduction of TD sympathisers on Friday.

Former minister Paritala Sunitha and TD activists staged a protest at Ramagiri police station.

Sunitha had a heated argument with police and said she would resist YSRC goons if they tried to disturb peace in the erstwhile faction-hit villages.

The issue arose as the vice-sarpanch of the YSRC from CK Palli mandal along with close aides headed for Venkatapuram to join the TD at Paritala Ghat. Their vehicle was stopped at Nyamaddala by YSRC leader Raja Reddy, brother of Rapthadu MLA. Raja and his men allegedly attacked TD activists with a view to stopping the vice-sarpanch from joining TD and abducted some TD men from near Nyamaddela village.

Sunitha said even after the TD alerted the police against the YSRC attack, the cops did not react in time and did not trace out the abducted persons. The police denied permission to TD even to stage a silent protest at CK Palli and hence the party changed the venue.

"Paritala Ravindra restored peace in faction-hit villages where many suffered badly during the Congress rule. In recent times, YSRC men led by Raja Reddy are encouraging faction fights in the villages. We will not be silent if our party cadres are attacked," she said.

TD cadres led by Sunitha and Paritala Sriram staged a protest at Ramagiri police station demanding that cases be registered against YSRC leaders. The police said they would act based on the complaint. Following this, the protest was withdrawn.
