Netas are like puncture wallahs, says Manish Sisodia

When we find a puncture shop immediately after our vehicle tyre goes flat, we thank the puncture wallah and see him as a saviour.

Bengaluru: In the round table discussion on the topic ‘Government by the People’, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia compared the present democracy and politicians to a tyre puncture repairmen.

“When we find a puncture shop immediately after our vehicle tyre goes flat, we thank the puncture wallah and see him as a saviour. But we fail to realise it was he who had spread out the nails, which caused the puncture in first place. Like the puncture wallah, present day politicians too spread nails in the society, but end up projecting themselves as saviours and get elected.”

Instead of voting to elect good candidates, the people are voting by emotions, of language, religion, caste and personal relationships with politicians.

He said the political leaders are scared to decentralise power as they feel that it will make them weak and vulnerable.

Gandhian H.S. Doreswamy said the power of democracy is in self-governance of people, who have self-control and never exhibit themselves as goons.

Eminent personalities, citizens' activists took part in the round table discussion and felt that government by the people is yet to be realised.
