M K Stalin opposes privatisation of Ordnance factories

The Centre should initiate talks with the workers of these factories and take steps to upgrade the units instead of selling them off, he asserted.

CHENNAI: The Central government should not hand over the 41 ordnance factories including several in Tamil Nadu to the private sector, the DMK leader M.K. Stalin has urged.

Condemning the Centre's reported move to convert the ordnance factories as corporations, as part of a plan to hand them over to private sector, Mr Stalin said in a statement here on Friday that the BJP government should withdraw this decision.

He said the public sector ordnance factories employed over 85,000 workers and were producing Rs 29,000 crore worth machinery and vehicles to the Indian Defence sector annually.

The Centre should initiate talks with the workers of these factories and take steps to upgrade the units instead of selling them off, he asserted.
