Thiruvananthapuram: KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran has asked the CPM central leadership to explain the appointment of Gita Gopinath as the economic advisor to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. He said the people wished to know what qualitative changes she would bring about. Mr Sudheeran said her appointment had come as a huge surprise.

“One wishes to know if this is decorative or is it to follow the policies of the Narendra Modi government,” he told reporters here on Tuesday. He said the Harvard professor was known for her neo-liberal views which cannot go hand in hand with the policies of the left. Regarding CPM secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s controversial Payyannur speech, he said the CM’s silence was mysterious.

He alleged that leaders of both CPM and BJP had become headstrong due to power and are bloodthirsty. He said KPCC would stage a sit-in in front of Martyr’s Square at Palayam from 10 am to 12:30 pm on Aug 3 protesting atrocities against Dalits in the State.
