Lingayats did not back BJP: Baburao Chinchansur

The Lingayats who ensured a 14,000 vote lead for the BJP candidate in the LS poll, did not vote for the BJP candidate in the Assembly by-election.

Kalaburgi: Former Minister and BJP leader Baburao Chinchansur, who is known for his controversial statements, has stirred a controversy again alleging that Lingayat voters in the Chincholi Assembly constituency did not vote for the BJP candidate in the just concluded by-election as they were 'bought over' by Congress candiate Mallikarjun Kharge.

A video which showed him making this comment during a discussion with a group of people at his Kalaburagi residence has gone viral.

In the video, Mr Chinchansur claimed that the BJP candidate Dr Avinash Jadhav was able to win as the Koli community to which he (Chinchansur) belonged and the Lambani community to which the BJP candidate belonged, voted for the latter.

“The Lingayats who ensured a 14,000 vote lead for the BJP candidate in the LS poll, did not vote for the BJP candidate in the Assembly by-election. Hence Dr Avinash was able to win by a margin of only 7,000 votes ( in reality Dr Avinash won by 8030 votes) as the Lingayats were bought over by Mr Kharge. On the other hand all the Koli community voters of the total 40,000 in the constituency and also the Lambanis voted for the BJP candidate", Mr Chinchansur is heard saying in the video which is being circulated on social media.
