Opposition condemns YSRC corporators for attacking mayor Sravanthi

Tirupati: Leaders of political parties, including CPI, CPI(M) and Jana Sena, apart from Girijan Welfare Association, on Wednesday demonstrated in front of Nellore district collectorate demanding arrest of YSR Congress corporators for attacking mayor Potluri Sravanthi during the council meeting on Monday.

Shouting anti-YSRC slogans, they tried to enter the collectorate. But police forces present foiled their plans. Following an argument between the police and protesters, some opposition leaders were allowed inside the collectorate to submit a representation to DRO Narayanamma.

Speaking on the occasion later, state secretary of Yanadi (Girijan) Welfare Association K.C. Penchalaiah warned that they will intensify their stir across the state if those involved in the attack against the mayor are not arrested.

“There is no protection to even the first woman of the city,” Penchalaiah remarked. He demanded that police book cases against YSRC corporators Bobbala Srinivasa Yadav, M Gowri and M Vijayabhaskar Reddy under the SC / ST Atrocity Act.

The Girijan leader lamented that Dargamitta police have not taken any action against these corporators despite receiving a complaint, along with all proofs, two days ago. He wondered how police could ignore a complaint made by the mayor herself.
