Poll code in force, stop state govt from implementing projects, says B.S. Yeddyurappa

Bengaluru: State BJP president B.S. Yeddyurappa has dashed off a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), requesting him to issue a directive to the state government not to take up any developmental works as long as the poll code of conduct is in force.

Mr. Yeddyurappa said the state government was claiming that the CEC has relaxed the election code and permitted it to take up developmental works related to infrastructure, services and purchases and that permission had also been granted to invite and finalize tenders.

“My sincere and urged request to the CEC is that it should immediately withdraw any such permission given by it and direct the state government to strictly abide by the election code of conduct. If it assumed that the elections in Karnataka are over, the decision of the state government on various projects will have their ramification in other states where elections are under progress,” Mr Yeddyurappa stated in the letter.

He urged the Election Commissioner to reconsider its decision to relax the election code of conduct for Karnataka and also wanted the CEC to direct the state government to annul all decisions taken by it after the code came into force.
