Over 500 in fray for Lok Sabha elections in Telangana
Hyderabad: The state election commission has rejected as many as 130 nominations excluding those filed in Bhongir constituency after scrutinising a total of 646 applications in 17 Lok Sabha constituencies in Telangana. Over 500 candidates will contest in the Lok Sabha polls on April 11. The highest numbers of nomination were rejected in Malkajgiri LS constituency.
The Election Commission rejected 27 nominations out of the total 40 filed in Malkajgiri, while it accepted all 18 nominations filed in Zaheerabad LS constituency. Over 500 candidates will contest in ensuing LS polls on April 11.
The EC has rejected four out of 17 nominations in Adilabad, 10 out of 27 in Peddapalli, eight out of 24 in Karimnagar, 12 out of 203 in Nizamabad, two out of 20 in Medak, 21 out of 50 in Secunderabad, five out of 24 in Hyderabad, four out of 28 in Chevella, 11 out of 23 in Mahbubnagar, three from 15 in Nagarkurnool, eight out of 39 in Nalgonda, eight out 29 in Warangal, two of 20 Mahbubabad and five out of 34 in Khammam. The EC was yet to update the number of nominations rejected in Bhongir LS constituency till late on Tuesday night.
The Election Commission will conduct ballot voting in Nizamabad constituency because of the larg number of nominations filed. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Rajat Kumar has said earlier that that the EC will conduct ballot voting if there are more than 64 candidates in one Lok Sabha constituency. He said EC is ready with 194 election symbols and would provide more.
Mr Kumar said there were 10 registered parties and 94 unregistered parties in Telangana state. Mr Kumar said the EC has identified 6,440 critical polling stations in the state while number was 10,480 during the recently-concluded Assembly polls. He said 25,000 security personnel would be deployed from the armed forces and police from other states. Mr Kumar said the state EC has requested the Election Commission of India to deploying ex-servicemen for poll duties and it has respondent positively.
