Shivamogga: Describing BJP State President Mr B.S. Yeddyurappa as the future chief minister of the state, in his hometown, Shivamogga, BJP National President Mr Amit Shah dismissed Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s claim that Mr Siddaramaiah would return to power after the coming Assembly election.
Addressing a massive crowd at Gopi circle after a road show in the city, Mr Shah taunted Mr Gandhi asking him to check the Congress’ election track record since 2014.
"Rahul baba says that Mr Siddaramaiah will continue as CM for one more term. Let him see his own election track record since 2014. Congress was thrown out of power in Maharashtra and Jammu and Kashmir. Even in the North East, the BJP made inroads. Now, Mr Modi's victory chariot has entered Karnataka and the Congress will be thrown out," he said.
"Earlier, I used say that there was a BJP wave in Karnataka. After visiting Karnataka last time, I have started saying that there is a tsunami of the BJP here. The victory march will continue here too," he said.
Taking a dig at the Siddaramaiah government, Mr Shah said that more than 20 Hindu activists were killed during the last four and a half years. "Mr Siddaramaiah claims that Karnataka is No 1 in all respects. A former Supreme Court judge has given a proper certificate to the government that it is No 1 only in corruption. How can a poor man's chief minister wear a watch worth Rs 40 lakh?" he questioned.
Aiming to consolidate its lost glory in Shivamogga district, the BJP took out a massive road show in the town which ended at Gopi circle in the city, where a BJP worker was murdered allegedly by PFI workers in Feb 2015, after holding a rally at the same place.
Though Mr Shah was running behind schedule, he made a detour at Thirthahalli to visit the house of Ranjitha, whose death had created a 'Love jihad' controversy. He also held a marathon meeting with seers of various mutts in Shivamogga district. Over 45 seers, predominantly from the Lingayat community, along with other communities like the Idiga and Brahmin community were present in the meeting organised at Bekkinakalmath.
